Principal Message

Buck Ekstrom

Welcome to Woods Cross Elementary. Home of the Wolverines! At WXEL we celebrate the light and genius in everyone. Indeed, we strive to:

Live with Kindness

Lead with Integrity

Learn for a Lifetime

The teachers and staff join me in saying we are happy to have you as part of our school family. We know this will be a successful and satisfying year for you.

As the Principal of Woods Cross Elementary, I feel it an honor to serve such a friendly community.  I will foster a strong culture of community and family.  This will be our way to provide the best learning environment for our children.

I am originally from Farmington, Utah and am a product of Davis County schools.  During high school, I joined the military and served for 10 years.  After a church mission, I attended Ricks College and Utah State University.  I am currently working on a graduate degree at Brigham Young University.  My educational career began in Las Animas, Colorado where I taught high school science, coached football, and wrestling.  I then returned to my hometown, taught science, and coached wrestling at Farmington Junior High.  During my time in administration I served as an assistant principal at three elementary schools in Bountiful (Oak Hills, Valley View, and Washington) and then at Syracuse Junior High.  Previously, I was the principal at King Elementary (Layton) and South Clearfield (Clearfield).  The best method to increase and maintain high student achievement is to embody high expectations and a strong professional learning community where we all collaborate to educate our children.

I truly believe that strong student/parent/teacher partnerships lead to high academic success. Therefore, I invite you to visit our school (your school) often and actively participate.  This participation may come in a variety of forms including joining the PTA or Community Council, working as a volunteer, checking your child’s homework every day, attending school events, being a reading or math tutor, helping in the office or playground, and maintaining open communication.

I am thrilled to work in Woods Cross and be a member of this wonderful community.  Please call or visit anytime.
